Kirk Gunpowder
Kirk gunpowder is associated with the popular episode in the Star Trek Original Series entitled Arena where Captain Kirk had to battle the Gorn without any weapon at his disposal. The ever wise and brave Captain Kirk was able to build a mortar out of a hollow bamboo filled with gunpowder (potassium nitrate, sulfur and coal). He then stuffed the bamboo with precious stones, he even had a wick, he lit it and blew the Gorn right smack in his chest. Take that MacGyver.
The poster above, aptly entitled Ingenuity, shows Captain Kirk firing the homemade mortar/bazooka into the Gorn’s chest. Yes, only Captain Kirk would have thought of that.
The popularity of that episode even prompted the Mythbuster’s to construct a homemade bazooka just to see if it really can be done in real life scenario when you are face to face with an alien without any gun or weapon.
Captain Kirk is really one smart and tough captain. The caption on the poster is right, “That’s why he’s the goddamn Captain.”
